May 3, 2022 – Contract Advice, Contract Tools & League Wide Average

Dear Members,

I wanted to take a moment to commend, congratulate and thank every one of you on a successful regular season and for being astonishing professionals while we all navigated through the unchartered waters of COIVD that brought along with it constant changes to the policies, protocols and team schedules.

Contract Advice

We strongly advise that it is likely in your best interest to refrain from signing a new Standard Player Agreement until the successor Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) terms are determined this off-season.

Important terms could change such as free agency rights, minimums and maximums, bonus amounts, etc.  We are in the process of negotiating new CBA terms and conditions with the League as our current CBA is set to expire at the end of July.

As always, the NLLPA strongly suggests using one of our qualified Regional Attorneys to help you with your contract negotiations.  The NLLPA subsidises the first $200 USD of any players’ first time using a Regional Attorney!

League Wide Average (LWA)

League has determined that the League wide average for the 2021-22 season is $22,757 as deemed on the roster freeze submission date of March 18th, 2022.

The League Wide Average was $20,412.10 for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 Seasons.

Why is this relevant?

In our current CBA Section 7.1(A)(3) – Restricted Free Agency (RFA) – A player who has played for 3 seasons, dressed for 23 regular season games and was signed BELOW the LWA during the last season becomes a RFA and may seek offers from other clubs.

If you have questions about anything relating to your particular upcoming contract negotiation or situation, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Thank you and good luck to all the teams competing in the postseason,

Reid Reinholdt
